The AAT control room houses equipment to allow the telescope to be moved and monitored throughout the night, as well as equipment to control and communicate with the instruments attached to it. Here, the night assistant (Steve Lee) makes notes in the log book, while the observer (Ken Freeman) keeps track of the instrument that is collecting and analysing the light from celestial sources.
Since this image was taken in 1977, numerous upgrades and advances in computer technology have dramatically improved the capability of the telescope, enabling new kinds of science to be undertaken.
