The Anglo-Australian Telescope dome, seen from UKST
Date created: 1975-12-04
The Anglo_Australian Telescope dome, seen from UKST. The UK Schmidt Telescope was completed a year or so before the AAT, and was intended to complement it, as was the Palomar (now Oschin) Schmidt when the 200-inch telescope was built in California. Schmidt telescopes are traditionally photographic instruments, and have a much wider fields than the larger reflectors. The deep images they produce cover 6 x 6 degrees of sky and were, among other things, used as surveys for larger instruments. December 1975.
